NIGERIAN ARMY GRADUATES ELITE SPECIAL FORCES BATTALION TO BOOST COUNTER-TERRORISM

The Nigerian Army has graduated a full-fledged Special Forces battalion after six months of intensive training at its Special Forces School in Doma, Nasarawa State.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said on Friday, 9 October 2026, during the graduation ceremony that the new battalion would strengthen counter-terrorism operations and enhance the Army’s capacity to tackle emerging threats, including drones and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
He said the Army’s expansion from eight to 12 divisions required additional specialised capabilities to improve operational readiness and dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.
