OGUN POLICE RESCUE FIVE (5) ABDUCTED GATEWAY POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS IN INTELLIGENCE-LED RESCUE OPERATION

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully rescued five (5) students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, who were abducted by armed criminals in the Sapade area of Ogun State. The incident occurred on 27th April 2026 at about 2255hrs, when Ipara division received a distress report of a suspected kidnapping.  Acting promptly, a patrol team was deployed to the scene where an ash-coloured Toyota vehicle was discovered abandoned.  The vehicle was observed with visible bullet impacts and blood stains, while mobile phones and other personal belongings were recovered from within. Further examination of the scene revealed an identity card belonging to a student of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, confirming that the occupants of the vehicle were students.  This development necessitated the immediate escalation of the incident and activation of a full-scale rescue operation. The Ogun State Police Command states that the written examination for Police Constable applicants commenced today, April 28th, 2026, at the Police College of Information Technology (PCIT), Kobape, Abeokuta.  The exercise will run through April 30th, 2026, marking a critical phase for candidates who successfully passed the earlier screening stages. The Command reassures the public and applicants of its commitment to a transparent, credible, and orderly process throughout the examination period. All candidates are advised to arrive early at the venue, dressed in the approved attire of white shorts, white T-shirt, and white canvas, and must present their printed invitation cards alongside their NIN slips for verification. The Kebbi State Police Command categorically refutes reports alleging unlawful detention of Engr Sufiyanu Bala of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State. For clarity, Engr. Sufiyanu Bala is in Police custody strictly in compliance with a valid remand order issued by the Chief Magistrate Court Birnin Kebbi, directing his remand pending his appearance before the Court on Monday 27th April, 2026 for further proceedings. The Command emphasizes that his custody is solely pursuant to judicial directive and not an arbitrary or unlawful action by the Police.  The Command further confirms that on the same day he was brought into custody, Engr. The Ogun State Police Command wishes to categorically refute a viral video currently circulating on social media, purportedly showing armed men operating within a forest in Ogun State.  The Command states unequivocally that the video is false, misleading, and does not originate from Ogun State or any part of Nigeria. Preliminary findings and credible fact-checks reveal that the footage, which shows some individuals cooking in a bush setting, was recorded in Kenya during an operation involving cattle rustlers and was captured by a General Service Unit (GSU) drone.  Further verification indicates that the video was first uploaded online in 2022 and has since been deliberately recirculated with a false narrative to create panic and misinform the public about the security situation in Ogun State.
