POLICE ARRESTS SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVERS FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION IN OYO

The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another significant breakthrough in its sustained efforts to combat cultism, violent crimes, and other criminal activities across the State. On June 17, 2026, operatives attached to the Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended two suspected members of a notorious cult group at their hideout in the Oke-Apo area of Oyo Town. The suspects, identified as Oparemi Kabiru, alias "Ikebe", and Fasasi Taofeek, alias "Bufalo", were arrested following intelligence indicating that they and their associates had been involved in activities threatening public peace and security within Oyo Town and its environs. The Ogun State Police Command, through coordinated and swift intelligence-led operations by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Ibafo Division, has recorded decisive breakthroughs across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo, leading to the arrest of six suspects: Afisu Awesu ‘M’, Bala Aminu ‘M’, Moruf Sodiq ‘M’ alias “Okiki”, Mumuni Amodu ‘M’ alias “Stone”, Abayomi John ‘M’ alias “Ibafo”, and Mr Adeboye Ojesina ‘M’. Further to the earlier press release issued by the Oyo State Police Command on 13th June, 2026 on the arrest of one Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as “Surii Ilupeju”, and four others in connection with suspected armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms, the Command wishes to inform members of the public that ongoing investigations and further interrogation of the suspects have led to the recovery of additional exhibits linked to the case.
