POLICE RESCUES ABDUCTED COUPLE UNHURT IN OYO STATE
The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that two persons who were abducted by armed kidnappers at Tiro Village, Irawo, in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, have been successfully rescued unhurt through a coordinated security operation.
The victims, identified as Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were abducted in the late hours of Saturday, 5 July 2026, when a group of about five armed men invaded Tiro Village, firing sporadically into the air before whisking the couple away to an unknown destination.
Upon receiving the distress report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, immediately directed a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving operatives of the Command, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and local hunters. During the operation, a Bajaj motorcycle earlier reported stolen was recovered abandoned in a nearby bush, providing a significant breakthrough in the rescue effort.
The recovered motorcycle, coupled with the deployment of technological leverage, enabled the joint security team to identify the hideout of the hoodlums.
Upon sighting the advancing joint security operatives, the kidnappers opened fire, resulting in a fierce gun duel.
However, owing to the dense forest terrain and the difficult surrounding environment, the hoodlums escaped into the bush with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, abandoning the victims in the process.
The victims were rescued unhurt, immediately evacuated to a medical facility for evaluation and necessary treatment, subsequently discharged after being certified to be in stable condition, and have since been reunited with their family.
Following the encounter with the hoodlums, the Oyo State Police Command calls on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any person seeking unusual medical attention or presenting with suspected bullet wounds to the nearest police station or security post.
Such timely information will assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing criminals and prevent further criminal activities.
The Oyo State Police Command appreciates the invaluable support and collaboration of the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, hunters, and members of the community whose timely information and cooperation contributed significantly to the successful rescue operation.
The Command reassures residents of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the State and urges members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the State of criminal elements.
